Internationally acclaimed Brazilian filmmaker, Kleber Mendon莽a Filho will听participate in a half-day symposium on his work, involving Brazilian film听scholars, (海角社区), (Leeds), (Reading) and (Warwick).
Born in the Northeast of Brazil, Mendon莽a Filho鈥檚 films have recorded the听changing landscape of his hometown Recife, focusing on the effects of听property development and global capitalism. His work registers anxieties and听historical conflicts beneath local and global transformations. The building of听both characters and places in his films offer a unique insight into the regional听and national history that contributes an original and exciting addition to听Brazilian and world cinema.
In this symposium Mendon莽a Filho will discuss his new untitled film project, in听progress, which deals with the home in which he grew up. Stephanie听Dennison, Tiago de Luca and L煤cia Nagib will give presentations on intimacy听and cordiality, class and class conflict, and the politics of horizontality and听verticality as articulated in the work of Kleber Mendon莽a Filho, reflecting on听questions surrounding Brazilian nationhood and film. A round table, moderated by 听will be followed by a Q and A with the audience.
