Professor Helena Sanson publishes new book: a modern edition of Isabella Sori鈥檚 1628 Ammaestramenti e ricordi, Difese, Panegirico听(Alessandria, Edizioni dell鈥橭rso, 2021, 312 pp.)
The Italian Section is delighted to announce the publication of a new book by Professor Helena Sanson, a modern edition, in Italian, of Isabella Sori鈥檚 Ammaestramenti e ricordi, Difese, Panegirico (1628) (Alessandria, Edizioni dell鈥橭rso, 2021; 312 pp.). Isabella Sori鈥檚 very rare work includes three texts: a treatise on the ideal conduct of women in everyday life, a defence of the female sex, and a panegyric of the city of Alessandria. Sori draws from an impressive array of sources and displays an unusual level of erudition for her sex and young age (she was, she claims, only thirteen when she wrote it). This comprehensively annotated edition offers a careful reconstruction of Sori鈥檚 sources and a fascinating insight into the everyday life of a young woman in seventeenth-century Italy.
