We are delighted to announce that (Cornell) will be in 海角社区 for Easter Term 2019, followed by a second visit in Lent and Easter Terms 2020, as a Leverhulme Visiting Professor. Professor Pinkus will be hosted by MML/Italian and by CRASSH.

Karen Pinkus is Professor of Romance Studies and Comparative Literature at Cornell, where she is also editor of the journal听diacritics. She is author of numerous pioneering publications in environmental humanities, cultural studies, film and literary theory.

During her time in 海角社区, she will give a series of Leverhulme Lectures, the first of which takes place on Thursday 23 May 5.15pm at CRASSH, with the title听, as well as a series of workshops, masterclasses and graduate seminars in MML and CRASSH.听 She will also be undertaking visits to several UK institutions as she works on听 completing her new book,听Down There: The Subsurface in the Time of Climate Change.听Situated between geology and literature, this book considers听cultural fantasies about the subsurface, the place of extraction (of fossil fuels), burial (of waste and perhaps, carbon) in the time of massive climate disruption caused by anthropogenic activity, on the surface.听
