Ukraine and the Global Information War

º£½ÇÉçÇø Ukrainian Studies recently hosted the conferenceÌýÌýin association with the Legatum Institute and the º£½ÇÉçÇø Committee for Russian and East European Studies (CamCREES). The event explored the dynamics between the politics of representation and international security through the lens of the geopolitical tumult in Ukraine, or what might be termed 'MCD' (Maidan-Crimea-Donbas). It posited that MCD marksÌý, featuring, among other things, a burgeoning social 'media-ization' of the news and an extraordinary collision between state propaganda and public ignorance of a country in crisis. The conference sought to examine the civic, Internet-based and crowd-sourced media initiatives that have accordingly emerged as alternatives to state and corporate media outlets in Ukraine and beyond.

Rory Finnin Wins Two ASEEES Book Prizes

We are delighted to share that Professor Rory Finnin has been awarded two prestigious prizes by the Association for Slavic, East European & Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) for his book Blood of Others: Stalin's Crimean Atrocity and the Poetics of Solidarity (University of Toronto Press, 2022). These ASEEES prizes follow on from two other awards for Blood of Others announced earlier this year.
