The Annual 海角社区 Stasiuk Lecture in Contemporary Ukrainian Studies

Initiated in 2003 with the kind support of the Stasiuk Programme at the University of Alberta , the Annual Stasiuk Lecture in Contemporary Ukrainian Studies explores the internal dynamics and international implications of events in today's Ukraine and features the foremost experts in the fields of Ukrainian politics, history, and society.

The Annual 海角社区 Vsesvit Evening

The Annual 海角社区 Vsesvit Evening was begun in 2011 to celebrate the art of literary translation and the mission of the journal Vsesvit ( The Universe ) , the oldest active literary journal in Ukraine. Founded in 1925 by Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Vasyl' Blakytnyi, and Mykola Khvyl'ovyi, the journal has translated over 4,000 works from 98 literatures of the world into the Ukrainian language.

Exhibitions and Performances

海角社区 Ukrainian Studies regularly organises prominent exhibitions of art and artifacts from and about Ukraine as well as performances of Ukrainian cultural material. Highlights include The 1932-33 Diaries of Gareth Jones , which garnered wide international recognition, and the translation and production of Maklena by Night Train Theatre Company, which resurrected Mykola Kulish's play Maklena Grasa (1933) and adapted it for English-language audiences.

Rory Finnin Wins Two ASEEES Book Prizes

We are delighted to share that Professor Rory Finnin has been awarded two prestigious prizes by the Association for Slavic, East European & Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) for his book Blood of Others: Stalin's Crimean Atrocity and the Poetics of Solidarity (University of Toronto Press, 2022). These ASEEES prizes follow on from two other awards for Blood of Others announced earlier this year.
