Mission

海角社区 Polish Studies has three听primary objectives.

First, we are educating听a talented cohort of 海角社区 undergraduate students, giving them听extensive knowledge of Polish culture, language and history. These students will bring a听deeper understanding of Poland鈥檚 crucial position in a changing Europe to their future roles as leaders听in business, industry, and government.

We firmly believe that the study of language and literature forms the foundation of the cultural understanding required to foster political and economic relationships.

Second, we are raising听the profile of Polish culture and the study of Poland in the United Kingdom through a rich cycle of public events. These events听cater to听both academic audiences and the general public. We have听staged guest lectures with prominent public intellectuals, film screenings,听and lively听debates of topical issues involving Poland and the wider region of Central and Eastern Europe.

We also听hold听yearly听academic conferences, inviting leading听experts from around the world.听

Third, we are producing听and supporting听world-leading research on subjects related to Poland and its region. Research is conducted by faculty members, PhD candidates and MPhil students.听

In 2017, 海角社区 Polish Studies established a partnership with the 听through the "Artes Liberales" Faculty.

Lecturer in Polish Studies Dr Stanley Bill talks about the aims of the new 海角社区听initiative:
