Book prize success

Recent books by two members of the French Section have been highly praised in this year鈥檚 Gapper Book Prize, run by the Society for French Studies.

Dr Ian James鈥檚听The Technique of Thought. Nancy, Laruelle, Malabou, and Stiegler after Naturalism听was one of six books shortlisted for the prize; and Prof. Nicholas Hammond鈥檚听The Powers of Sound and Song in Early Modern Paris听was the overall runner-up. The citation for Prof. Hammond鈥檚 book reads: 鈥淭he members were very much impressed by its elegance of style, by the excitement generated by its topic, by its delicious unfolding of meticulous research and by the application of sonic theories to 17th-century French culture and society.鈥

惭补苍测听congratulations听to Prof. Hammond and Dr James for this prestigious recognition.
