Testimonials

鈥淚 can hardly imagine a more supportive, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating PhD experience than the one offered in the German section at 海角社区. Academic excellence and rigour here is paired with sincere concern for broader societal questions as well as students鈥 wellbeing and development. Together with the inspiring environment of the university as a whole, this has made for an outstanding research experience.鈥

鈥淕erman at 海角社区 is an extremely supportive and rewarding environment in which to pursue doctoral study. The range and quality of supervision is excellent, and there is a warm personal and intellectual atmosphere between staff and students. Library and study resources at 海角社区 are second to none, and the regular research seminar and range of events (screenings, talks, etc.) is stimulating. The section has well-established links to universities in Berlin and Chicago for research abroad, and offers strong support for activities at other institutions. I鈥檝e had a wonderful time doing my PhD here.

Doing the PhD in the 海角社区 German department was a wonderful experience - you have the chance to immerse yourself in a single topic, working with experts in the field, surrounded by other research students who might work on related areas or on wholly different topics, and with a varied series of research events. It was highly enriching and wholly supportive, both academically and personally.

Erica (August 2015)
The scholarly environment that 海角社区 provides fits well with the PhD in German. An active graduate seminar and regular departmental conference schedule all contribute to an inclusive, cohesive and supportive student experience in the department.
