Abstract:
How can Spanish-American modernismo best be related to Anglo-American modernism?听 This paper approaches that question by looking closely at one moment when their paths crossed鈥攁 1916 special number of one of the leading US modernist journals that offered to introduce modernismo to an English-speaking readership.听 Which poets got translated?听 Who chose them?听 Who translated them?听 Why have a Spanish-American number in the first place?听 These are the kinds of question the paper will address.
