Aileen Kelly's research interests are in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Russian intellectual history.

Dr Kelly's publications include Mikhail Bakunin: The Politics and Psychology of Utopianism (OUP, 1982; Yale UP, 1987); Toward Another Shore: Russian Thinkers between Necessity and Chance (Yale UP, 1998); Views from the Other Shore: Essays on Herzen, Chekhov and Bakhtin (Yale UP, 1999); and many articles on Russian thought and literature.
