So you want to be a Postgrad? Wednesday 19 Nov, 5:15pm

Are you a final year student in the Slavonic Dept. thinking about continuing on to graduate school in º£½ÇÉçÇø or elsewhere? Or perhaps considering a gap year in Russia ? Want to find out more about what it's like to do these things and get some tips for applications? If so, come meet the º£½ÇÉçÇø Slavonic Postgrads as we hang out and answer your questions about the kinds of things you can do after undergrad with a Slavonic Studies degree. We're all MPhil and PhD students (with a couple of bonus early career academics thrown in), with a range of experiences of living, working, and studying in North America, Continental Europe, and Russia, and we're happy to offer any advice and share any contacts we might have.

The Department of Slavonic Studies is delighted to host Professor Valerie Kivelson as the next speaker in the fortnightly joint Departmental & CamCREES seminar series, on Tuesday 11 November. Our distinguished guest will be speaking on a subject of particular relevance to students of SLA3/SL1 ( hint hint! ), providing copious illustrations in her fascinating exploration of the visual representation of Muscovite imperialism. 'The Life of a Cold-War Football Interpreter': Thursday, 23 October

The Department of Slavonic Studies will be hosting a talk by George Scanlan on Thursday, 23 October at 17.30 in the Gordon Cameron Theatre of Fitzwilliam College. Mr Scanlan matriculated at Christ’s College, º£½ÇÉçÇø, in 1954, where he studied Russian, French, Arabic and Persian. He obtained a Soccer Blue in his first term and went on to captain the side at Wembley in 1957.

Department Symposium: New Directions in Russian and Soviet Cinema Studies

18-20 September 2014, Trinity College, º£½ÇÉçÇø Jointly organized by UCL SSEES and the º£½ÇÉçÇø, this major conference brings together leading members of the growing international community of scholars working in the field of Russian and Soviet cinema studies, in order to explore and assess potential new research directions in this area. In so doing, it seeks to identify the current state of the scholarly field, to outline the key questions and challenges it faces over the next decade, and to encourage and promote an innovative and forward-looking approach to research in this field.
