Soviet Film Series Launches on Wed 22 January, 5pm

What better way to end Week 1 than by coming to watch an old Soviet Classic?

The Cranes Are Flying, directed by Mikhail Kalatozov in 1957 and breathtakingly shot by Sergei Urusevsky, is one of the masterpieces of Post-Stalin 'Thaw' era cinema.听 It is set during the Second World War in Moscow and tells the story of Veronika, a young girl whose lover leaves to fight on the front line.

The film depicts the suffering Veronika undergoes and the emotional challenges she faces while waiting for him to come home. The film became an international success, winning the Palme d鈥橭r at Cannes in 1958.

Most importantly, there will be Russian snacks provided. There will also be a brief introduction and a discussion of the film afterwards. So, if this piques your curiosity, make sure you come along!
