The Centre for Film and Screen, with support from the School of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Modern Languages, and the Department of Italian, is delighted to host celebrated documentarist Gianfranco Rosi as our Filmmaker in Residence for 2017.

Gianfranco Rosi
Gianfranco Rosi听is an Italian听,听,听听and听.听 (2016), a documentary focused on听听on the Sicilian island of听, won the听听at the听.听Rosi is the only documentary filmmaker to win two top prizes at major European film festivals, and is one of only five filmmakers to win two top European festival prizes in the 21st century.
Rosi was born to Italian parents in Eritrea in 1963, leaving for Italy at the age of 12 during the . 听At 19 Rosi moved to听听to attend the听.
He made his film debut with听Boatman in 1993, which was screened at various international film festivals, including听,听, Toronto,听and听the . Below Sea Level听won the Orizzonti Doc Award at the听 (2008) and听听won听the 听at听the (2013).
