The Centre for Film and Screen, with support from the School of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Modern Languages, and the Department of Italian, is delighted to host celebrated documentarist Gianfranco Rosi as our Filmmaker in Residence for 2017.

Gianfranco Rosi
Gianfranco RosiÌýis an ItalianÌý,Ìý,ÌýÌýandÌý.Ìý (2016), a documentary focused onÌýÌýon the Sicilian island ofÌý, won theÌýÌýat theÌý.ÌýRosi is the only documentary filmmaker to win two top prizes at major European film festivals, and is one of only five filmmakers to win two top European festival prizes in the 21st century.
Rosi was born to Italian parents in Eritrea in 1963, leaving for Italy at the age of 12 during the . ÌýAt 19 Rosi moved toÌýÌýto attend theÌý.
He made his film debut withÌýBoatman in 1993, which was screened at various international film festivals, includingÌý,Ìý, Toronto,ÌýandÌýthe . Below Sea LevelÌýwon the Orizzonti Doc Award at theÌý (2008) andÌýÌýwonÌýthe ÌýatÌýthe (2013).
